Due to the expectation of lower annual growth rates and the increasingly competitive market environment in China, it might become more and more inevitable in the coming years for companies operating in China to also end employment contracts and lay off employees. Especially manufacturing companies that are facing declining demand and rising business costs might become the most affected sector. However, the termination of a labor contract in China is a complicated procedure that requires adherence to strict procedures and, under some conditions, explicit approval from the government. When restructuring a company, employers must take caution of numerous regulations and the rights of their employees and workers.
